ACAIA extra virgin olive oils are internationally awarded olive oils made from the rare Kolovi olive variety that grows almost only on the Aegean island of Lesvos (Mytilene). Olive oil has a long history in Lesvos dating back to antiquity. With 11 million trees and a population of 90.000 people, Lesvos has the largest number of olive trees per capita in the world. But more, olive oil from Lesvos has a long-standing reputation of supreme excellence. Yet few people in Greece or beyond have tasted it these days because it is mostly exported in bulk, losing its unique charasteristics as it gets blended with other oils.
